Project Description

 

Fallon County is updating its Growth Policy which is a plan for the future of the County that addresses topics which include land use, transportation, population, housing, government services, economic conditions and other topics.  The Growth Policy will address county-wide planning issues as well as planning issues specific to the City of Baker and Town of Plevna.  Once a draft Growth Policy has been prepared there will be opportunity for the general public and the Planning Board to review the draft plan.  The Final Growth Policy will need to be adopted by the Fallon County Commission, the City of Baker Council and the Town of Plevna Council for it to become the official Growth Policy for each jurisdiction.

 

The Growth Policy will be prepared in compliance with Montana Code content and procedural requirements.  It will establish goals, objectives and policies for each planning topic that will:

 

   1) Serve as a guide to facilitate future county, city and town government decisions

   2) Promote well-planned and orderly future growth

   3) Enhance the quality of life in Fallon County

 

Specifically, the Growth Policy will identify existing conditions and projected trends related to land use, population, housing needs, the local economy, government services and facilities and natural resources.  The Growth Policy will include implementation strategies that address:

 

   1) Development, maintenance and replacement of the full range of public infrastructure

   2)  Appropriate location of projected growth

   3) Efficient and cost-effective provision of infrastructure to support future growth areas

   4) Identification and mitigation of various impacts that may be generated by future development

   5) Coordination between the county, city and town on how to effectively manage future growth

 

During the preparation of the Growth Policy the public will have numerous opportunities to provide

meaningful input in the preparation of strategies to address both current issues and how to best

accommodate future growth while preserving the way of life and qualities of the community that

are cherished.
